Are blogs still a thing these days?

Blogs used to be the shizzzz back in the day.

These days, blogs are more of money-making machines and not so much of a hobbyist venture. Like who in their right mind will spend a far few bucks each year to maintain a personal blog? — erm, that’s me!

I’ve been exposed to the idea of ownership a lot recently. As I look into FIRE, Coast FIRE, side hustles etc, concepts of ownership — be it real estate, businesses etc — pop up more often than not. So it certainly is not a far-fetched idea to also personally own your blog, even if it’s not for money-making intentions.

I always feel like the pressure to create something with the main purpose and goal to make money from the get-go is almost always going to fail right at the beginning. And that’s not what I want out of this blog. To be really honest, I’m still figuring it out along the way. My plans were first, create a website and just start writing.

I used to be one of those people who thinks things need to be perfect before you start taking any action because anything less than perfect means you suck. How far I’ve grown from that. Just get started. Do something crappy first and continue to improve from there. The most important bit is to just get started. Success doesn’t come overnight, success coming from continuous iteration, improvements and being relentless in your pursuit of reaching your goal. Things are not set in stone, and you can always change and pivot if things don’t pan out the way you hope they would. Being agile and flexible is key.

At the risk of sounding like some personal motivational blob, I’m just going stop here and say, yea I believe blogs are still a thing, and I’m here to make it a thing still, even if the rest of the world doesn’t. =)
